Tampa Bay Browncoats

you can't take the sky from me!

Hey kids, my name's Samantha. I haven't been in this forum, but I was on the old Tampa Bay site (I was also at CSTS 07). I wanted to start a topic about Nothing But Red. If you know what NBR is, you can probably skip the next paragraph. If you don't - read on!

Last April, Du'a Khalil Aswad was stoned to death in Iraq. She had been seen with a boy of a different faith, and for this crime, she was dragged into the town square, stripped, beaten, and stoned. Policemen looked on from the crowd; spectators taped her murder on their camera phones. She finally died when a cinder block was dropped on her head.

The book was inspired by a post written by Joss on Whedonesque, and all of the profits are going to Equality Now. We've been working on it for a year, and it actually just came out this last Monday. There's a paperback book for $15.95 and an ebook for $5.95.

I have some links here that should answer any questions, or you could ask me (I'm happy to answer questions!).

Website: nothingbutred.wordpress.com
Buy the Book: lulu.com/nothingbutred
Equality Now: equalitynow.org
Whedon's Post: whedonesque.com/comments/13271#more

Thanks for listening to me, guys.

Sam! Hey...I was actually gonna start looking into the NBR thing...see about getting copies to either sell or give out with prizes. I still have some of the mini flyers from last year...I'll check the site for any new stuff.

Hey Jodi! Are you doing CSTS again?

So good news about tying NBR into CSTS is that Lulu has a bulk purchase policy...

Do I get a discount if I buy in bulk?

* Bulk order discounts for paperback books are available in quantities as low as 26 copies
* Discount triggers for discs are set at 6 and 11.

NBR as a group, though, doesn't really have anything to offer. We don't have funds, so we can't provide them to CSTS. We can give ideas or help or support (um, emotional :) but like I said... no money. We can talk about it, though... let me know what you need.

Well, technically I am co-organizer...Brett is the big man on campus this year.

I'll have to look into the bulk purchase thing and I'll pass the info onto Beth, this year's global organizer. She might wanna run with it. I already posted an announcement about NBR on the Main CSTS forum...maybe we can get some cities to buy some. With NBR already donating to EN, I highly doubt anyone would expect you to take some of that and give to us at CSTS...would sorta defeat the purpose, yeah? LOL You might wanna check in on the CSTS forum...give any other info to Beth (Haldira) you deem appropriate.

Thanks for the info. I had missed all of this last year.
I ordered the paperback and ebook. Not a simple transaction but I'm hoping I get something soon.
